Minnesota CLE FAQs
Minnesota attorneys must complete 45 credit hours every 3 years, including at least 3 ethics credits, 2 elimination of bias credits, and 1 mental health/substance abuse credit. News: As of July 1st, 2024 – there is now a mental health and substance abuse credit requirement.
Minnesota-licensed attorneys can earn continuing legal education credits by exploring BARBRI's on-demand and live CLE courses.
Each Minnesota attorney is placed in a CLE category for reporting CLE. Categories 1, 2, or 3 correspond with the 3-year CLE reporting cycle. The attorney’s category is assigned by the date of admission to the Minnesota bar.
Category 1 lawyers report their CLE in 2024, 2027, etc.
Category 2 lawyers report their CLE in 2025, 2028, etc.
Category 3 lawyers report their CLE in 2026, 2029, etc.
No, carryover is not allowed.
New lawyers have a full three year reporting period, plus the balance of the year that the lawyer is admitted. Courses taken after bar admission, but prior to the start of the initial reporting period, may be used for the initial reporting period.
