New Scaffolded Pedagogy and Instructional Videos

New Scaffolded Pedagogy and Instructional Videos

The scaffolded approach to our courses incorporates a spiral instructional design that helps learners build knowledge and skills and gain confidence. Students approach their bar prep in three phrases with practice questions throughout.

Scaffolding Pedagogy Phases

Foundations Episodes Present Key Concepts in Each Subject

Leveraging the learning power of story-driven instructions, students are introduced to core legal concepts with our Foundations Episodes. These are animated explainer videos that teach foundational concepts through the power of stories with a recurring cast of characters in realistic legal scenarios.

Deep Dive Lectures and Practice Materials Build on that Foundation

After building this foundation, students take a deep dive into short lectures, presented by BARBRI’s popular and effective faculty lecturers. Infused with a scenario-based learning approach, these lectures, along with the practice sets and questions layered throughout, mirror the style, scope, and format of each exam.

The new Course Companion allows students to acquire substantive knowledge in a flexible manner — either by using it alongside the Deep Dive Lectures, or as a standalone text, actively working through the problems as they read.

Students then move to the final review focused on recapping the most important and highly tested concepts (Legacy UBE prep) or the topics starred by the NCBE for memorization (NextGen UBE prep). Additional practice questions are assigned in both courses to continue building competence and confidence.

The new Conviser Mini Review: A Score Maximizer conveys key concepts and skills in a concise, visual, and accessible way, covering everything students need to review in the final weeks of study. The CMR Max provides a capstone to scaffolded pedagogy alongside the final review lecture.

  • A full expert-led review and analysis lecture of each section to maximize learning and improvement

Student performance on our simulated exams establishes their BARBRI Pass Predictor report and contributes to their subject-level Strength Scores, allowing their course to adapt their abilities in real time.

Unique Features of BARBRI’s NextGen UBE Course

While we’ve intentionally aligned our NextGen UBE course with the established and effective pedagogy of our Legacy UBE course, we have designed the NextGen course to fully align to the NextGen content scope.

New Immersive and Interactive Skills Scenarios

New Immersive and Interactive Skills Scenarios to Master NextGen Question Sets

New skills instruction and assessment pedagogy designed for online adult learners leverages the power of contextual learning through scenarios — placing instruction and practice directly in the context of the NextGen exam.

Students are first introduced to the tested skills needed in short, instructional videos presented by engaging faculty experts. Students then apply what they learned in three phases.

Immersive | Interactive | Expert Sections

Immersive Client Scenarios

We bring the legal scenario to life by placing the student in the role of an associate working through an assignment at a fictious law firm, where they will learn and practice the foundation skills tested on the NextGen bar exam. These include issue spotting and analysis, investigation and evaluation, client counseling and advising, client relationship and management, dispute resolution, and legal research, writing and drafting.

Interactive Question Sets

Students then work through our unique integrated question sets that reinforce substantive knowledge and skills with unfolding problems, matching how they’ll be tested on exam day.

Expert Instruction

Students remain immersed in the scenario through detailed feedback from a law partner.

This context-based learning approach immerses the learner in real-world legal scenarios, backed by adult learning theory as a way to help adult students master complex topics, learn how to apply the assessed skills, and further develop their critical reasoning skills for the NextGen exam.

NCBE Licensed Questions

NCBE Licensed Questions

We’ve partnered with the NCBE to integrate four sets of NCBE-licensed content into our NextGen Bar Review course, continuing our commitment to provide the most authentic and effective preparation for NextGen bar exam success. Each of these four sets will consist of 40 MCQs, 2 Integrated Question Sets, and 1 Performance Task.

Three sets are strategically integrated throughout the course reinforcing knowledge and skills as student progress and ensuring students practice with exam-relevant content.

Students will access the fourth licensed NextGen question set directly from the NCBE platform. This fourth and final set will serve as the Final Prep Exam assigned during the final review portion of the course. This experience allows students to apply their knowledge in a timed, exam-like setting directly inside the NCBE bar exam platform, eliminating the uncertainty of encountering a new system on exam day so they can focus on performing their best.

Family Law, Trusts and Estates, and Professional Responsibility

Although Family Law and Trusts & Estates will not be directly tested on the NextGen Exam, concepts in these subjects will appear in Performance Tasks and may be included in Integrated Sets. Specific Professional Responsibility rules, while not considered a Core Concept, will appear in Integrated Sets.

The animated narrative storytelling in the Primer Videos gives students the framework needed to tackle exam questions in these subjects efficiently.
